153 of L. Ron Hubbard classic pulp fiction works to be released in book and audio format

The 153-story pulp series, published under the line Stories from the Golden Age, will include adventures, westerns, mysteries, suspense thrillers, science fiction and fantasy. Each will include the original pulp art and illustrations from the period to recreate the stories. And with titles as colorful as the artwork—Spy Killer, The Planet Makers, The Mad Dog Murder and Sabotage in the Sky to name a few—the series will have the authentic look and feel of the golden age of pulp.

In addition to the print versions, each book has been produced as an unabridged multi-cast recording featuring of many of today’s top audio-recording talent, done in the style of the radio dramas of the period, but enhanced with all the advantages of modern recording technology. Original music scores and sophisticated sound effects are just one component of the recordings, which are available on disc and as downloads to personal players.

Goodwin states: “Galaxy will be bringing these stories to an even greater audience today by making them available as printed books as well as audio entertainment. This is the culmination of an ambitious undertaking that has been nearly ten years in the making and will provide today’s audience with exciting, heart-pumping, white-knuckle entertainment.”

Goodwin continues: “Pulp magazines and the authors who wrote for them had millions of fans. During that period, over 40 million Americans eagerly awaited the next issue of their favorite magazines.” And none of the authors were more popular than L. Ron Hubbard, considered by many to be the quintessential pulp fiction author, where issues containing his byline routinely saw a circulation increase of a minimum of 80,000 copies. To satisfy his many fans, Hubbard often produced multiple stories for a single issue, writing under a variety of pen names.

The series will be published in a trade paperback format with the first five titles available on September 8, 2008. These include Under the Black Ensign, Branded Outlaw, The Great Secret, If I Were You, and Spy Killer. In January, 2009, The Iron Duke, The Chee-Chalker, Orders Is Orders, and Six-Gun Caballero will be released, followed in May, 2009, with the release of Danger in the Dark, The Professor Was a Thief, Sabotage in the Sky, and Twenty Fathoms Down. Over the course of the next five years, a total of 80 books comprising 153 titles will be released, accompanied by an integrated ongoing $1.9 million sales and marketing plan.
